Charlie Bone and the Time Twister

charlie bone jenny nimmoFinally delivered all art for the French edition of Jenny Nimmo’s Charlie Bone and the Time Twister last week. It turned out to be much more of a struggle than the first one. I’ll post the cover as soon as it arrives back from the printers, but in the meantime here’s an interior drawing that was surplus to requirements.

UK edition of the book here, with cover art by David Wyatt.

Great work Kellie, very glad to hear you're illustrating the French editions. How many images per book? I illustrated the Japanese edition of the first five titles, including this very same scene!

Hi John, I found some of your Charlie Bone illustrations when I was working on it - very, very nice, and very different to any of the other versions. They made me wish I'd taken a freer approach. I trapped myself into thinking I was in competition with Pauline Baynes, and she's unbeatable!

For the interiors I drew chapter headings and a version of the family tree. I had a notion to change that in the second one, and do a few full page drawings instead. I completed two, but the publishers wanted me to keep a consistent format. The other full page drawing was included in the end, and you can see it here.

Now I just need to get more UK work - the paperwork involved in working for France is a pain!
